13 Benefits Of Working Out with intensity

Exercising intensely has many positives including physical and mental benefits. From getting stronger and leaner to producing feel good endorphins, exercising intensely produces rewards well beyond the actual workout. We use intense exercise in some of the workouts at our fitness retreat so guests can experience a wide range of fitness activities. One of the benefits of HIIT workouts is that because they are so intense, you can get the same benefit out of a 20 minute workout that might normally take you 40 or 45. More bang for you buck — a win win!

Low Impact Tabata

Low Impact Tabata

Most of our guests sign up for one of our fitness retreats to experience new workouts, get motivated and inspired and challenge themselves in a way they haven’t before. Tabata is a particularly challenging interval format and can be used in many different ways. It can be used for cardio, weights, core – you name it. It’s a form of HIIT (high intensity interval training). Like HIIT, Tabata exhausts the body and produces an “after burn” which means your body will burn calories at a higher rate for a longer period of time after your workout. To put it simply, your metabolism will be elevated slightly for minutes to hours after your workout – a HUGE win!!

Obviously we love beach workouts for our fitness retreat guests. There’s really no better place to workout than the beach with the fresh ocean air and sunshine beaming down on you. Pool HIIT Workout

Pool HIIT Workout

Winter might be coming but indoor pools are great Way to get a high-intensity workout without all of the impact. The best part is, you don’t have to be someone who knows how to swim all of the strokes proficiently (you do need to be able to swim enough so that you aren’t creating a dangerous situation for yourself in the water) in order to workout in the pool. There are plenty of moves like high knees, butt kicks, squats, lunges and so much more that you can do to get a great workout in the pool especially in shallow water. And if you’re in an area where it’s still warm, then a pool or even the ocean (on a flat surface barring any marine life) will work just perfectly.

HIIT Bodyweight Workout

HIIT Bodyweight Workout

One of the things I love the most about bodyweight workouts is that you can do them anywhere. So whether you’re at home, on the road, at a local park or a friend’s house, you can do these anytime. No equipment needed (or very little).

I feel like our retreat guests are always fretting over getting to the gym. Well, most of the people I talk to regarding health and fitness have a common issue – “It’s just so hard to get to the gym most of the time”. Let’s face it, we’re all living in a time starved world. Between work, family, friends, vacation, general life duties and anything else in-between, it’s hard to find time for yourself.

Workout: Core + Cardio HIIT

Workout: Core + Cardio HIIT

We love HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts because they can they give you the most “bang for your buck”. This means that they challenge you both physically and mentally, stimulate your metabolism so that you burn more calories for a longer of period of time after your workout is over (after burn) and they can be done in a relatively short period of time. 20 – 30 minutes of HIIT is a sufficient amount of time to get in a great interval workout and still get all of the benefits.

Simple At Home Tabata Workout

Simple At Home Tabata Workout

We love at home workouts because it means they generally don’t require much equipment (or any at all) and they can be done anywhere. Don’t confuse the word “simple” in our title of this workout though. Although the moves may not be complicated, they are definitely not easy in a Tabata format. For those of you that don’t know what Tabata is, it is an interval format that features 20 seconds of intense exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest 8 times to equal 4 minutes.
