5 Health Benefits Of Working Out By The Ocean

5 Health Benefits Of Working Out By The Ocean

I’ve always been drawn to the ocean. I, like many people, feel a sense of calm and relaxation when I’m by the sea. I’ve read and know about the theory of Thalassotherapy, a theory that the sea has many health benefits. Thalassotherapy, from the Greek thalasso meaning ‘sea’ and therapia meaning ‘treatment’, uses the healing and beneficial properties of the sea and the marine environment for your health and wellbeing. In thalassotherapy, not only do you benefit just from being around the sea but actually connecting to the sand and the water with your body enhances those benefits. I’m in!

8 Reasons To Go On A Fitness Vacation

8 Reasons To Go On A Fitness Vacation

One of the reasons I created Vita Vie Retreat, over 12 years ago, was so that I could build an environment where people could truly focus on themselves. I had been doing personal training and nutrition coaching for about 6 years and one of my biggest complaints was that my clients couldn’t focus on themselves. We would be in the middle of a training session and a client would reach to answer a phone call or a text (and way back in the day, it was a pager). It just seemed like we were treading water rather than swimming through the waves.

So one day I was on a plane and I read an article about a big health spa, a place to escape and get away and get fit and healthy. And while this appealed to me, I also wanted to create an environment where I would still work with clients rather than just owning an operation and shuffling people in and out. Training and coaching are my passion and actually participating in that work is really important to me. So, I decided to create a small version of the health spa so I could accomplish my goals – to form a fitness vacation where people could get away and focus on themselves as well as be able to do the coaching. And here we are in 2018 with Vita Vie Retreat!

Hydration and Electrolyte Strategy

Hydration and Electrolyte Strategy

Water is essential to life. A few days without it could result in death – it’s that important. So considering a hydration strategy when working out in the heat is essential. We lose water through respiration, sweating as well as urinary and fecal output. Exercise speeds up the rate of water loss making intense exercise, especially in the heat, a possibility of leading to cramping, dizziness and heat exhaustion or heat stroke if adequate fluid intake isn’t met. Here’s our list of the 5 best fitness trackers for 2018! They’ve come a long way in the past couple of years. I wrote a similar blog post about 12 years ago and revisited it recently. Wow how technology has changed! When I took a look back at it just a few days ago, I realized that it needed some serious updating. Some of the products aren’t even around anymore so I figured it was about time revamp that list and put out something that would be useful for people in 2018.

Having a goal is a fantastic thing but having a specific goal is even better. And having a means to tracking that goal means you’re on your way to success. A goal without any kind of plan or a way to track how you’re doing is a recipe for failure. So if you’re reading this and you have a goal, here’s what I want you to do.
