Taking A Personalized, Self Inventory

Taking a self “inventory” can be a helpful way to slow down, tune in, and check in on yourself. Noticing where you’re at, how you’re feeling, and what you might need can be so critical in the next steps you take to achieve your health & wellness goals.

You might have heard of our various states referred to as batteries. We all have a mental, emotional, and physical battery. Our mental, emotional, and physical states can ebb and flow in terms of their charge. If one is low, it will pull from the others which can cause stress and strain those other batteries which means they aren’t all functioning at 100%. Making sure you’re fully charged in all areas (or doing the best you can) can help to ensure you’re functioning at full capacity. 

We like to think of our total body system as a circuit board. That circuit board consists of all of the functions and systems involved. As in any circuit board, if there is even a tiny little short somewhere, it has the potential to cause a cascade of issues. When it comes to your health, wellness, or weight loss goals, finding any shorts means we can replace those circuits or re-charge them completely in order to have a circuit board that is completely lit up.

To ensure you are functioning at 100%, let’s dive into a self-check-in for three of the biggest factors that impact how we feel and function each day:

Mental
Your mental state refers to how you’re feeling mentally. Where are your thoughts gravitating to? How are you able to handle change and how easily does that come for you? Are the changes you are making adding a layer of stress or are they reducing your stress? Are you able to support yourself mentally or do you need external reinforcements?

Emotional
How are you regulating your emotions and which emotional state are you residing in most of the time? What does balanced emotional regulation look like for you? When do you feel your best emotionally? What might you need more of or less of to achieve that state?

Physical
How is your body feeling and functioning overall? Do you have the energy you want/need to have? How are you moving and functioning when it comes to movement? Are you able to flow through life with the mobility and strength that you’re looking for? What are you doing really well that’s leading to how you’re feeling and/or what do you need more of?
