Train For Your Game: Golf Fitness

Train For Your Game: Golf Fitness

Almost every golfer I’ve ever spoken to talks about how hard the game is. Usually, they’re mentioning wanting to improve their score. This conversation is a common thread running from the professional golfer down to the amateur or beginner golfer.

It’s a tough sport. It’s mentally and physically taxing. The interesting thing is that so many people don’t consider the game of golf to be an athletic sport. It’s seen more as a leisure sport requiring technical skill (which it does) rather than a sport requiring a good amount of exertion. Tiger Woods was one of the first to really take the fitness side seriously and in turn, many other professional golfers started taking notice. In the last few years, with the rise of younger golfers like Dustin Johnson, Ricky Fowler and Jordan Speith, there has been a little more attention to fitness and the need for sport specific training.

5 Health Benefits Of Working Out By The Ocean

5 Health Benefits Of Working Out By The Ocean

I’ve always been drawn to the ocean. I, like many people, feel a sense of calm and relaxation when I’m by the sea. I’ve read and know about the theory of Thalassotherapy, a theory that the sea has many health benefits. Thalassotherapy, from the Greek thalasso meaning ‘sea’ and therapia meaning ‘treatment’, uses the healing and beneficial properties of the sea and the marine environment for your health and wellbeing. In thalassotherapy, not only do you benefit just from being around the sea but actually connecting to the sand and the water with your body enhances those benefits. I’m in!

8 Reasons To Go On A Fitness Vacation

8 Reasons To Go On A Fitness Vacation

One of the reasons I created Vita Vie Retreat, over 12 years ago, was so that I could build an environment where people could truly focus on themselves. I had been doing personal training and nutrition coaching for about 6 years and one of my biggest complaints was that my clients couldn’t focus on themselves. We would be in the middle of a training session and a client would reach to answer a phone call or a text (and way back in the day, it was a pager). It just seemed like we were treading water rather than swimming through the waves.

So one day I was on a plane and I read an article about a big health spa, a place to escape and get away and get fit and healthy. And while this appealed to me, I also wanted to create an environment where I would still work with clients rather than just owning an operation and shuffling people in and out. Training and coaching are my passion and actually participating in that work is really important to me. So, I decided to create a small version of the health spa so I could accomplish my goals – to form a fitness vacation where people could get away and focus on themselves as well as be able to do the coaching. And here we are in 2018 with Vita Vie Retreat!

Goal Setting: Does Your Behavior Match Your Goals

Goal Setting: Does Your Behavior Match Your Goals

So you’ve set a health, fitness or weight loss goal – now what? First of all, congratulations! Many people fly blindly without ever setting a clear goal. And if you’re reading this and your goal isn’t clear or specific, now is the time to define your goal. In this post, we’ll cover how your behavior must match your goal in order to achieve it.

I believe in clear, specific, measurable goals. If you truly want to achieve a goal, you can’t just throw something out there to the wind and expect it to be attained. Setting a clear goal that is defined will give you the best chance to succeed.
