PREPARING FOR YOUR VISIT TO VITA VIE RETREAT

So, you’ve decided to sign up for a fitness retreat with us. You’ve booked your package and your airfare and now it’s time to prepare for your arrival. What exactly should you do? Is there a proper way to prepare for your visit? How can you make sure you have a smooth, stress free and successful stay? Here are some basic tips to help you cover all bases for your fitness vacation.

MAKE ANY NECESSARY ARRANGEMENTS AT HOME

Is there anything that needs to be done at home before you go? Completing these tasks can take the stress of home life off of you while you’re at your retreat. You’ll know that everything is taken care of and can focus on you during your stay.

  • Do you have family at home? Significant other and children may need arrangements around work, school and outside activities.

  • Do you have animals that you need to make arrangements for? (The Seagate Hotel & Spa takes dogs up to 75 pounds plus a $25/day pet fee and a one time $50 pet cleaning fee.)

  • What about plants and mail? Depending on how long you’ll be away, you may need someone to help you out with daily tasks.

EXERCISE

Vita Vie Retreat is a fitness focused retreat will include lots of physical activity. It will be easier to integrate if you’re already accustomed to moving your body regularly at home. No need to overdo it though. However, it’s helpful to start conditioning your body (and mind) to enjoy exercise as soon as possible. Here’s how:

  • Get into a regular exercise habit. Do some type of fitness activity 3-5 times per week.

  • Walking is a great exercise. You can do it anywhere and it requires no complicated equipment. If you’re not sure where to start with exercise, walking is the perfect option. 20 minutes a day can help condition your muscles, heart and lungs and lubricate joints.

  • Engage in light yoga or stretching daily

  • Buy quality exercise shoes that fit and wear them often for a few weeks prior to your retreat to break them in. You won’t want to break new shoes in at the retreat. There are too many variables and you want to make sure that you are bringing comfortable footwear before you arrive.

NUTRITION

Nutrition is a huge part of health, fitness and weight loss. It’s a great idea to get into some good eating habits at home before you arrive to the retreat. This way you’ll be set up for success when you get home. “Last hurrah”-type binges won’t make your transition toward healthy eating any easier. Instead, start to straighten out poor eating habits before you attend your fitness retreat, so some of your cravings are under control before you show up. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Stop drinking alcohol or limit your alcohol consumption

  • Get hydrated. Drink more water – aim to drink 8 glasses per day

  • Eliminate or decrease caffeine consumption

  • Cut back on the amount of salt in your food

  • Significantly reduce or eliminate added sugar. Swap out processed cookies and cakes for fresh fruit with real whipped cream.

  • Replace soda or sugary/salty sports drinks with green tea, coconut water and plain water

MIND BODY

Having a clear, positive mindset before you attend your retreat can help remove the issues of resistance during your stay. Daily meditation for 3 – 5 minutes will help calm and center your mind, while the following activities will make your transition much smoother:

  • Get enough sleep. Try winding down before it’s time to go to bed. Read, turn electronic devices off and take a couple of deep breaths to relax your mind.

  • If you’re a late riser, try to start waking up earlier

  • Get comfortable with idea of change

  • Remember the reason you’re going. Start keeping a journal to help you identify your intentions, goals and any anxieties you have about your upcoming trip.

  • Find your support community. Discuss your plans with encouraging friends and family. Their support helps.

MEDICAL

Improving health is one of the main reasons people attend our programs. We’ll gather a more in depth medical history once you arrive but you should consider the following prior to arrival.

  • Do you have any significant health issues that could interfere with your participation? If so, have you been cleared by your Doctor to participate?

  • Do you have asthma or any other breathing issue that requires an inhaler? Please make sure to bring it with you as we require inhalers to be present with you for all workouts.

  • Do you have any physical limitations? Have you been cleared by your doctor to participate in physical activity? If you do have physical limitations, we’ll need to know the details of your injury or limitations so that we can offer modifications or alternative movements.

  • Bring a complete list of your medications and supplements.

  • Let your doctor know you’ll be attending a retreat. Schedule a physical at least 6 months prior to your stay is a great idea.

  • Stop smoking or cut back significantly. Your retreat will be physically taxing so we don’t recommending trying to completely while you’re here. Try cutting back or quitting before you arrive.

Whether you’re attending Vita Boot Camp or a Private Fitness Retreat, this pre-arrival information applies.

Please feel free to reach out prior to your fitness retreat with any questions or concerns. We want to make sure you’re informed and comfortable before you arrive. We’re always happy to help.
