3 Mindset Strategies To Employ
Get clear on what you want - do you want to lose 20 pounds, improve certain health markers, or be able to run a marathon? Whatever your goal is, get very clear (in detail if possible) about that vision. Focus on the positive. Set goals that include positive language and highlight what you DO want vs what you don’t want.
Example: I want to lose 20 pounds so I can have more energy and feel more free with my movement. Rather than: I’m so tired of feeling energyless so I really want to lose this 20 pounds.
Understand your WHY - connecting to the emotional driving force behind your goal can help you stay focused and dialed in. It can also give you more clarity in terms of why this goal is important to you in the first place. Connecting emotionally means that you get a glimpse of how this goal can actually improve your life once you reach it. That emotional feeling impresses your mind and supports you in the pursuit of your dreams.
Example: Try the 5 Whys - as yourself why you want to reach this goal but after each answer, continue to ask why until you reach the core, emotional driving force. Meditate on that driving force and really think how it would feel to achieve this goal. How does your life change and shift in a positive way? How do you feel about yourself?Reinforce your mindset - use tools and strategies to change for the good, not just for right now. Changing how you think means practicing your new thoughts over time to make a concrete shift. This isn’t about reaching a goal and then ditching all of the work. In order to maintain the goal, you’ve got to change forever. Using techniques like visualization, journaling, and affirmations can be helpful in reinforcing these new thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors.
Example: There are so many different techniques to try. You can do a short visualization, journal daily, and use gratitude, or affirmations. No matter what you choose, it should be something you believe in and something you can practice every day.
