Cheesesteak skillet recipe
Ingredients
3 tbsp avocado oil, divided
1 lb extra-lean ground beef
2 cups sliced mushrooms
1 medium yellow onion, sliced
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
1 medium red bell pepper, sliced
Sea salt and black pepper, to taste
4 oz provolone cheese, sliced
How to Make It
Heat 1 tbsp of the avocado oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and break it up as it cooks. Cook for 3–5 minutes, or until cooked through and slightly crispy. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
Add the remaining avocado oil to the skillet. Add the mushrooms, onion, garlic, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper. Sauté for 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened. Season with salt and black pepper.
Return the beef to the skillet and stir everything together.
Reduce the heat to medium-low and arrange the provolone slices over the top. Cover for about 1 minute, or until the cheese is melted.
Divide between plates and serve warm.
Make It Your Own
Want a little more heat? Add red pepper flakes or chopped chilies.
And while this skillet is delicious on its own, you can easily change up how you serve it. Try it:
Over roasted or baked potatoes
Over rice
In a wrap and grilled
On a bun for a more traditional cheesesteak-style meal
Storing Leftovers
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
