Chocolate Avocado Protein Shake

CHOCOLATE AVOCADO PROTEIN SHAKE

Did you ever drink a protein shake that wasn’t as smooth and creamy as you wanted it to be? Well, look no further for options because an avocado might be just what you need. We used an avocado in this recipe because it has a relatively mild flavor so it only enhances the chocolate protein. It also blends so well making the shake nice and smooth. Have you ever tried a chocolate avocado brownie and loved it? If so, you’re in for a treat!

AVOCADO – A GREAT SOURCE OF FAT & NUTRIENTS

Yes, avocado has a very mild flavor. Yes, it blends well in a shake and makes it super smooth but why else would we add avocado to a shake? Did you know that avocado is technically a fruit? It’s true. Avocados are the “fruit” of the avocado tree, known as Persea Americana. There are different varieties of avocados and they range from 8 ounces to almost 3 pounds! Although, there are many types, we generally see Hass avocados in our local groceries and markets.

Avocados pack a huge nutritional punch containing Vitamins K, C, B5, B6 and E. In addition, they contain Folate (20% of the RDA), Potassium (14% of the RDA) and small amounts of Magnesium, Manganese, Copper, Iron and Zinc…and more. In addition, with each avocado you get about 2g of protein, 15g of healthy fat and 9g of carbs (7g are from fiber).

The fat in avocados is a heart healthy monounsaturated fat. The particular fat in avocados comes from oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid that is also found in olive oil. It’s benefits reach beyond heart healthy as oleic acid has also been linked to reduced inflammation and may have beneficial effects on genes linked to cancer.

Avocado can also help reduce cholesterol and blood triglyceride levels as well as help with nutrient absorption of fat soluble vitamins such as A, D, E & K.

It’s safe to say that the avocado does a whole lot more than just make this shake creamy. It’s a superfood in itself!

HOW TO

We love shakes because they’re so easy to make. Whether you’re making one for a snack or a meal, all you have to do is pop your ingredients into a blender and process. Easy and ready to go!

Place all of your ingredients into your blender, blend and you’re done!

If you like a thicker shake, add more ice and less water. If you like a runny shake, add less ice and more water.
